The World Health Organization (WHO) declared an end to the public health emergency due to COVID-19 on May 11th of this year. The Centers for Disease and Control (CDC) tracks all causes of death and has published provisional summary for 2022 deaths including COVID-19 related deaths. The data below highlights the sporadic increase in COVID-19 deaths during the multiple waves of the pandemic. It remains to be seen if a new COVID-19 wave will emerge in late 2023, but all indications point to COVID now being a lower-level endemic.
